Latino political leaders are organizing a political forum for December 7 to discuss the concerns of Latino voters in Minnesota.
This year many speculate that Latinos will not come out to vote in 2012 because they are disappointed with politicians. Many are wondering who will benefit if Latinos do not vote: Republicans or Democrats?
No one knows the answer to that question, but one thing is clear: those who will NOT benefit if they do not vote are Latinos themselves.
Maria Teresa Kumar, Director of Voto Latino recently said: "those who do not come to the table will certainly be on the menu" and this is very true. Our community will be ignored if it does not come together to demand a change in policies.
The December 7 Latino Forum will present an opportunity to hear why Latinos are frustrated with President Obama and whether he truly is to blame for the deportations that are happening throughout the country. The forum will also include a discussion of what Republican candidates are saying regarding immigration, as well as a discussion of why young Latinos have significant political power today.
Senator Patricia Torres Ray, Representative Carlos Mariani, Alberto Monserrate, member of the Minneapolis Public School Board, attorneys Monica Dooner, Patricia Perez, and Luz Maria Frias, and community leaders Jennifer Godinez, Miguel Lindgren and Joe Minjares proposed the idea for the forum, and many others are joining in the campaign.
Their goal is to invite all Latinos interested in politics to join together to organize a strong political front in Minnesota. The forum is being promoted through Facebook and other media.
The forum will take place at 5:30 pm at the Parkway Theater at 4814 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55407. Tel (612) 822-3030. For more information, check out the Facebook page: First Political Latino Forum of 2012.
