Un millón y medio de razones para votar por Obama
Finalmente la administración del presidente Barack Obama decidió arriesgar el pellejo por los hispanos con la acción ejecutiva que suspende las deportaciones de jóvenes soñadores por dos años, dando la posibilidad a los muchachos de renovar el permiso de permanencia en el país. No le quedaba otra opción al gobierno que poner la carne en el asador, dado lo apretadas que están las preferencias electorales en las encuestas entre el actual mandatario y el virtual candidato republicano Mitt Romney, por lograr la Oficina Oval de la Casa Blanca en los comicios de noviembre. Yo no lo podía creer cuando escuché el anuncio de boca de Janet Napolitano, secretaria del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS), durante una rueda de prensa telefónica, el pasado viernes 15 de junio.

Pero es sabido, que aún en los escritorios, los empleados de ICE se comportan como vaqueros insensibles con los inmigrantes no criminales que la actual administración ha tratado de beneficiar temporalmente, mientras se aprueba una reforma migratoria integral. Esos vaqueros, ejecutores de la expulsión más de un millón de indocumentados durante el gobierno de Obama, parecen haber actuado siempre bajo los preceptos de Chris Crane, presidente del sindicato de ICE, quien ha dicho que no se deben obedecer las directrices de los superiores.
No obstante, lo del viernes 15 es una noticia para celebrar. La administración de Obama entendió que es preferible jugársela con el voto latino, que permanecer acobardada por las amenazas de los recalcitrantes, que nunca respaldaron al mandatario y tampoco lo harán en el futuro. Apenas el jueves 14, los “dreamers” frente a la sede de Charlotte, le reclamaron al presidente que realizara una acción ejecutiva. Al día siguiente vino la decisión presidencial, que podría, según voceros oficiales, cobijar a 800 mil individuos, de entre 16 y 30 años. El Centro Hispano Pew proyectó en casi millón y medio el número de protegidos por la medida.
Las consecuencias para Obama no se han hecho esperar. En el Jardín de Rosas de la Casa Blanca fue objeto de un irrespeto por parte del reportero Neil Munro, del portal de internet The Daily Caller, quien interrumpió el discurso en el que confirmaba la acción administrativa develada por Napolitano. El mandatario fue calificado de “dictador” por los comentaristas de radio Glenn Beck y Bob Siegel y el representante a la Cámara por Iowa, Steven King anunció una acción judicial en su contra. Lo acusan de haberse saltado al Congreso y actuar inconstitucionalmente, pero Obama no promulgó ninguna ley definitiva, sino un alivio temporal. Ahora la pelota está en la cancha de la comunidad hispana, que tiene que votar masivamente en noviembre y confirmar que el poder electoral de los latinos está conformado por 23 millones de ciudadanos.
